Dorus Fox was commissioned Major in the 9th Michigan Infantry on September 10,1861.On October 10,1862,he was commissioned full Colonel.When the 27th Michigan Infantry was formed in 1863,Colonel Fox took command of the regiment on April10.On June 17,1864 he was wounded in battle at Petersburg,Virginia and he resigned his commission on October 3,1864.After moving to Iowa,he published religious and political books in Des Moines.Two of his sons died while serving in the Civil War.
