Esaias Baker was a pioneer settler of Ohio, arriving in the state by 1801, from Brooke County, Virginia, now West Virginia. He settled in the area near what is now Plainfield before 1810. According to local history accounts, Esaias traveled with his brother, Charles, nephew Rezin, and cousin Basil, eventually purchasing 152 acres, at $2.00 per acre, in the NE quarter of Section 1, Township 4, Range 5.

Esaias and his wife Mary? raised a family of 11 known children -- eight sons and three daughters, i.e., Lakin, Abednego, John, Elizabeth, Sarah, Edward, Isaac, Susannah, Morris, Charles and William. Many of his descendants still live in Coshocton and neighboring counties in Ohio.

Esaias was a son of Morris and Elizabeth Dorsey Baker, whose ancestors were early settlers of Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties in Maryland.
