SHIPPENSBURG, Aug. 14----THOMAS C. EVELHOCH died yesterday morning at his home,335 East King Street, following a week's illness, death being due to infirmatives of old age. He was 92 years old, and was a CIVIL WAR VETERAN, serving in COMPANY E, 130th PENNSYLVANIA VOLUNTEERS and was in the Battles at ANTIETAM and FREDERICKSBURG. He was a Member of the local Corporal McLean Post, No. 423, of the Grand Army of the Republic, and also was a member of the Messiah United Brethren Church in South Penn Street.
He is survived by his Widow [SARAH A. (BOWERS) EVELHOCH] and the following Children; J. L. EVELHOCK, Michigan; G. W. EVELHOCK, Princeton, Illinois; JOSHUA S. EVELHOCH, Paxtonia; ANDREW K. EVELHOCH and Mrs. KATHERINE M. RYDER, of town.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the resident in East King Street. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Newville. The Rev. F. B. Plummer, of the United Brethren Church of Hagerstown, will officiate.

The son of George James & Mary Rebecca (Weakley) Evelhock, he married Sarah A. Bowers January 27, 1859, in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and fathered John Lewis (b. 01/28/60), George W. (b. 06/22/61), Joshua S. (b. 04/09/64), Alexander C. (b. 12/24/66), Andrew K. (b. 11/23/70), Katherine May (b, 07/23/75 - married Charles David Rider), and Sarah A. (b. 03/02/80). In 1860, he was a laborer living in Dickinson Township, Cumberland County, and stood 5' 8" tall with black hair and brown eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Newville, Cumberland County, August 6, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 12 as a private with Co. E, 130th Pennsylvania Infantry.
Wounded at Bloody Lane during the battle of Antietam September 17, 1862, he was hospitalized and on November 18, 1862, detached to duty with the ammunition train. He honorably discharged with his company May 21, 1863.
In 1890, he was living in East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, where he was a member of Newville's Sharp Post No. 371, G.A.R., although his obituary claims he was a member of McLean Post No. 423, suggesting the possibility of a transfer. His surname was sometimes spelled "Evilhawk," likely indicating its pronunciation, and his obituary misspells it "Evilhoch."
