Joshua was the captain of an American sailing vessel; its job was hunting pirates. I suppose he was a stern captain from the note he wrote to his mother-in-law's attorney stating he didn't want any part of the inheritance due from the death of Harriot's brother who died at sea in the West Indies as a ship's carpenter. That ship was also a pirate chaser. They all led an exciting life in the early 1800's Baltimore, Maryland. Joshua died there 9 March 1834.
Harriot never remarried, and died almost forty years later. She received a military pension for Joshua's military service as a Naval Captain. She passed away in La Platte, Nebraska and was buried there. Then when the family moved to Bellevue, all the family burials were relocated to the new Bellevue Cemetery which is why they have an ideal location, however crowded it has become in this present day.
