Born July 22, 1934 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and passed away on September 19, 2005, in Addison, Dallas TX. Barbara is best known for her dedication and gourmet cooking at the Sample House. She will be remembered by all that knew her for entertaining and gourmet cooking. Barbara was an avid bridge player, and gardener where she enjoyed growing her own herbs and flowers. Barbara was selected by CBS to cater for them while they were broadcasting the Master's Golf Tournament.

She is survived by two daughters Jo Ann Laird and husband Ray, and Leigh Sunshine; son H. Allen Sunshine; brother Kenneth Loughlin, Jr. and wife Mary Ann; one nephew; one niece; four grandchildren; one great niece; one great nephew.

Barbara attended Central High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Howard was in hotel management in New York City when he met his wife Barbara at the Plaza Hotel, where he was in management, and she was the catering manager. He grew a rooftop garden atop their high rise apartment building, which caused an article to be written in the New York Times, with a photo of Howard with his tall corn atop the skyscraper they lived in. They loved to entertain, attend musicals and search for antiques in New York.

They moved to Dallas, Texas and were living on Turtle Creek, until they started their family. After their firstborn, Allen was three, they bought and renovated a home in North Dallas. Howard was running a management consultant business, putting investors together, which he did for many years, from 1973 on until his heart attack and he had to retire.

Barbara and Howard loved giving lovely dinner parties, gardening, enjoying the children and their activities, and a nice glass of wine by the fire at 5 pm nightly. They loved their friends and family. You were always welcome at the Sunshine house. They treasured their many friends in Dallas. Barbara and friends loved to go to the Farmers Market and get baskets of vegetables, divide them up, and then start canning and making chow chow. She was a fabulous cook and hostess! She had a dry with that was wonderfully entertaining! I will always miss her.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas in Dallas. Private family interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
