George had tuberculosis gotten while he was in the Navy down around the Panama Canal. He spent many years at Gabriel's Sanitarium. Eventually, he had only 1/2 a lung left and learned the method of inflating his chest to keep that piece of lung active. When the sisters of Mercy closed the Sanitarium aound 1955/56, it was reccommeded that he move to Colorado where they had the equipment he needed. He had learned how to use it on other people. Eventually, he moved to Indio, Riverside, Ca and spent the rest of his days there.
