Zelma Lillian Hughes Kennedy, age 79, of South Main Street, Williamstown, KY, wife of Buford Olander Kennedy, died Friday, October 12, 1979 at her residence after a short illness.
A native of New Columbus, Mrs. Kennedy was born February 15, 1900.
Daughter of: Nancy Jane Morgan Hughes (Morgan), and John William Hughes.
Mrs. Kennedy was predeceased by siblings: Elzie Hughes, Gusty Hughes, Dannie Hughes, and Zora Hughes Cook (Bryan).
Zelma Hughes married Buford O. Kennedy on March 15, 1922. The marriage was performed by Reverend Noland at Clerk's Office in Williamstown, Grant County, Kentucky.
Mrs. Kennedy was survived by; her husband, Buford, two sons, Lloyd Kennedy of Williamstown, Kentucky and Bufurd O. Kennedy, Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio, one sister, Hallie Hughes (Kennedy), and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Zelma was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Niece, Zelma Lillian Hughes (Crowe), was Ms. Kennedy's namesake.
Zelma and Buford were married 54 years when she passed away. Services were held Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home with Reverend Kelley Kennedy officiating. Burial was in Williamstown, Cemetery.
