OBIT:

Andy Hugo Gustafson died Saturday, January 9, 1994, at his home following a nearly year-long illness. He was born in Ellensburg on January 3, 1902 to Charles and Mary (Anderson) Gustafson.

He attended Lower Nanum Grade School; Ellensburg High School; Ellensburg Normal School (now CWU) for one year where he played football on that year's championship football team; and later finished at Washington State College (now WSU).

He and Mary Leora Hartman were married in Ellensburg on August 6, 1928. He worked for 41 years for what was then the Kittitas County Dairyman's Association, which later became Darigold in Ellensburg. At the time of his retirement he was production manager.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 39, Masada Temple (Shrine) and Ellensburg Chapter No. 11 RAM as well as the Elks Lodge No. 1102 and had belonged to the Ellensburg Gold Club where he played until he was about 85 years old.

Andy was an avid fisherman and hunter from the time he was a boy on the ranch with his horse, dog, gun and reel, and did that until his health kept him from it, about 80 to 86 years of age. He then gardened and played bridge, sometimes daily.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his sister, Ruby Haberman of Ellensburg; and seven nieces and nephews, Jerry Haberman of Ellensburg, Gene Haberman of Yakima, John Haberman of Seattle, Richard Gustafson of Seattle, Jodee Harryman of Issaquah, Gail Sawyer of Puyallup, and Karen Kuhenhausen of Bellevue.

Andy was preceded in death by two brothers, R. E. Gustafson of Ellensburg and Carl Gustafson of Vancouver. Services for Andy will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 1994, at the first Lutheran Church, 512 No. Ruby, Ellensburg with internment following at IOOF Cemetery. Should anyone want to view Andy, they may do so at the Stewart & Williams Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 11 from 2 - 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday, January 12 from 9 - 11 a.m.

The family suggests that those who wish to send a memorial in lieu of flowers for Andy, send them to the organization of their choice.
