(I have birth as 30 July 1827 in Ligonier, New York but this is not sourced by anything). Per Hartwells of America book his "parents were Ephraim and Nancy "Rockwood" Amsden and there were three brothers, Amasa E., Jarod R., and Nathan C." Ephraim died before 1834. Nancy then married Joshua Smith Hudson. Daniel was married to Polly L. Chapman 02Mar1850 in Norton Twp, Summit County, Ohio. Served in the Union Army 74th Regiment,Indiana Infantry, Co. 1 as a Private and was injured. Later he served in 12th Regiment, Indiana Calvary as a farrier. 1850 and 1860 Census reports show him working as a Cooper. 1880 US Census shows him as a Manufacturer of Brick and all his sons worked in a brick factory as laborers. Died of small pox in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In the cemetery book at Lindenwood cemetery office he was type listed as D.H. Arnsten. The Arnsten was crossed off and Amsden written in.
Daniel and Polly were the parents of 12 children: Marretta E., Nancyetta Rose, Harriet D., Danetta L., Ephraim Hemingway, Catharine A., Nathan L., Daniel H., Orlin E., Orlando, Jaroad Rockwood & Claudine Henriette.
Updated 28 Apr 2023- Indiana Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War learned that Daniel did not have a headstone. They arranged for a military headstone be placed and it was placed about 18 Apr 2023.
