Robert August Duval was the first child of Jules Rene Duval and his first wife, Marguerite Barbier. He came with his parents and baby sister, Elise, to the United States to live with his grandmother, Elise Birong Duval in Tonawanda, NY, around 1908.

His wife, Thelma Lindsey, was from Michigan. They lived there for many years before moving to California. Uncle Robert was a mathematics teacher.

He and Thelma had one child, Alberta, whom they adopted when she was a baby.

Uncle Robert and Aunt Thelma loved to travel, camp, drive all over-and take their cats with them! He loved to write and type (a lot like his father.) Uncle Robert corresponded with me over the years, really supporting me after my husband died. What a fun, gracious, smart man!

I had always thought his birthday was December 8 until I saw the SSDI posting... Robert also had two sisters through his father's second marriage: Suzanne and Annette.
