POCATELLO--Len Stoddard Brenchley, 74, passed away at his home on July 8, 1999. He was born August 13, 1924, in Wellsville, Utah, to Thomas Clegg Brenchley and Catherine Stoddard Brenchley. He graduated from Cache High School and later earned a B.A. in education from Utah State University and a master's degree in counseling from Idaho State University. He had lived in Logan, Utah, until 1952, when he moved to Pocatello. Len married LaWana Miller on September 3, 1947, in the Salt Lake City Temple. He worked as an electrician prior to completing his schooling in education. He then worked as a teacher at Alameda Jr. High. This led to his becoming a guidance counselor there at Alameda. Afterward, he transferred to Hawthorne Jr. High to work as a guidance counselor and then vice principal. He was also a boys' counselor when Highland High School opened in 1963. In 1966 he left Highland to work at ISU Vo-Tech as a vocational guidance counselor. He retired from ISU in 1986. While serving with the 1275 Army Engineering Battalion in Europe during WWII, Len received the Purple Heart award. Len served actively in the LDS Church as a teacher, Sunday School superintendent, Scout master, bishop, and high counselor. He also worked for 12 years as a temple officiator. Len had a keen interest in the outdoors, gardening and woodworking. He was an avid reader. As a young man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent a lot of time in Island Park at the family cabin that he built. The cabin was an enjoyable place for family gatherings. Later in life, Len greatly enjoyed traveling and playing golf. He is survived by his wife, eight children, one sister, one brother, one brother-in-law, 22 grandchildren eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at the LDS chapel on Tyhee and Moonglow with Bishop Watt officiating. There will be a viewing from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m on Monday, July 12, 1999 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be provided by the Pocatello Honor
Guard.
