Ralph Cecil Clay, 80, LaBelle, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Blessing Hospital, Quincy. Born September 22, 1920, in LaBelle, he was the son of George and Janie Smith Clay. He married Dois Ivy Manley on September 28, 1940 in Monticello. She died November 12, 1997. Mr. Clay received his education in the Lincoln School of LaBelle. He was a member of the LaBelle Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, a self-employed farmer, the grave digger for Coder Funeral Homes and the late A. G. Rimer of Hundson-Rimer Funeral Homes for many years. His life centered around his work and his family. Survivors include a daughter, Janie Tasco, LaBelle,; four sons, Ralph L. Clay and wife Melaine; David C. Clay and special friend Elaine; Dwight D. Clay and wife Teresa, all of LaBelle; Linney G. Clay and wife Bonita, Kansas City; one brother, Granville Clay and wife Frances, Quincy; one sister Irene Magruder, Quincy; 31 grandchildern; 55 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers; six sisters; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visitation was held Saturday, June 16 at 10:00 a.m. until time of services at Coder Funeral Chapel. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 2:30 p.m. in the Coder Funeral Chapel with Pastor James A. Salter officiating. Burial was in the LaBelle Cemetery, LaBelle.
