Walter married Elsie Gingrich February 23, 1910. They are the parents of three children. Walter was a farmer and stock buyer while living on the farm near Longford, Kansas, homesteaded by his father John. After the death of Elsie he moved to Kansas City, Missouri with little Oran and Thelma, living at first with sister Lena and family. He entered the real estate business as a broker and worked in that field in the Kansas City area until the day of his death. It is said he sold some places as many as four times, always noting the price of the last sale.
