Elsie is the only daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Engel Gingrich. She has four brothers, Edward, Ray, Harold and George Gingrich. Elsie married Walter Emrich on February 23, 1910. Three children were born to them: Oran Sylvester, born March 21, 1911; Thelma Magdelena, born March 23, 1913; and November 18, 1918 daughter Emily Elizabeth was born.
Elsie, age 31, died of influenza just two days after her father. Their double funeral was held at the Emrich home and Mizpah church before burial.
