Franklin Elmer Freehafer was born 27 February 1874 at Roanoke, Jackson Townshp, Huntington County, Indiana. He married Bertha Catherine Krieg 24 December 1903 in Huntington, Huntington County, Indiana. The couple first lived at 1 East State Street in Huntington and then homesteaded in Beaver County (now Cimarron County, Oklahoma) and Texhoma, Texas County, Oklahoma from 1903 to 1910 when they returned to Huntington. The story of their time spent in the panhandle of Oklahoma before it was organized makes interesting reading! They moved back to Huntington where they lived at 215 East Tipton Street and then at 424 East Franklin Street. Frank owned the O.K. Market in Huntington as early as 1911 and then worked for the Erie Railroad. While working on the railroad in Chicago he fell from a roof and died.
