R.J. Howery passed away Aug. 3, 2002. He was born June 30, 1915 in Ingham Co. where he resided all of his life. He was the son of Cecil and Belva Howery.
In addition to his parents, his first wife, Helen, his oldest daughter, Betty Ann, and his brother Clare preceded him in death.
R.J. was a survivor of the Bath School bombing, along with his sister, Mary Catherine, and brother Clare.
On Aug. 22, 1936, in Lansing, he married Helen Marie Mull (Aug. 6, 1911, Clare Co. MI. – Nov. 7, 1959 Mason, MI). In 1961 he married Lulu H. Hill (divorced). He then married Anna (Graves) Howery, the wife of his deceased brother.
R.J. was a toolmaker. Both R.J. and Helen are buried in the Felt Plains Cemetery.
He leaves his loving wife, Anna; his children; Richard (Yolanda) Howery, Bill Howery and special friend Cathy Ording, and Belva Hewitt; Special ‘Skip Bo' friend Chari Everett and his much beloved dog, Rico. He is also survived by 7 stepchildren and their families; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sisters Mary Catherine (Paul) Smith and Leona Howery.
R.J. worked 36 years at Lundbergs in Lansing, did carpentry and was "Mr. Fix-it".
He was also a longtime member of the Gethsemane United Brethren Church in Jackson.
Funeral services were held at the Robertson Funeral Home-Leslie Chapel Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002 am with pastors Gayle Rubles and Herbert Cherry officiating.
