Elgan Barton, son of the late Rhoade Barton and Mollie Stairs Barton was born Jan. 31, 1900 at Alton, Mo., and departed this life Aug. 9, 1979 at the Fulton County Hospital at Salem, Ark. at the age of 79 years. He was united in marriage in 1922 at Couch, Mo. to Bonnie Sanders, who preceded him in death in 1971. He is survived by 6 sons, 3 brothers; 3 sisters; 15 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. His wife, his parents, and 2 sisters, Esther and Bertha preceded him in death. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Free Will Baptist Church, 5 miles east of Alton. Funeral services were held Sun., Aug. 12 at the Cave Springs Church with Rev. Charles Gower and Rev. Doyle Williams officiating. Interment was in Cave Springs Cemetery under direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
