Death of Mrs. S. H. McGary: At all times and under all circumstances death is the dreaded foe of the human family, from whose inevitable coming all would flee, but to whose blighting breath all must at last yield. While sorrow and tears ever follow in its wake, there are occasions when its rude visitations though claiming but one victim, leave such desolation behind as to beget despondency in the breasts of surviving loved ones. Such is the work of death when its victim is the mother of helpless and dependent babes whose hearts and minds need the tender guidance that only a mother's love and a mother's thoughtfulness can suggest. Such is the effect when a husband is deprived of his sustaining power. Intensely sad, therefor is the death of Mrs. S. H. McGary, which occurred Tuesday morning at the home of her husband's sister in Seguin, where she was taken two weeks ago with the vain hope that a change of climate would prolong her life if not restore her health. She had been ailing for several months and having developed an obstinate cough it was feared pulmonary troubles would ensue, and it was to minimize this tendency that she was removed to West Texas. The immediate cause of death, however, was pneumonia of the heart, and thus afflicted her end was speedy and painless. So swiftly did death approach that within five hours of the appearance of the first unfavorable symptoms life was extinct. Her last moments were soothed by the tender ministrations of her mother and other relatives. The remains arrived in Beaumont Wednesday morning, accompanied by the mother, husband, and children and the funeral took place at 9 o'clock from the Baptist church, Rev J.A. Smart officiating. Mrs. McGary, who was in her twenty-fourth year, was a member of the Baptist church and a practical Christian, doing daily good deeds of which the world took no note, but which were her treasures. By those who knew her she was loved, her gentle manners winning and holding friends, and with her sorely grieved mother, husband and three baby girls, all friends deeply sympathize. And to the sympathy of others that of the editor of the Journal and its attaches, with whom the sorrowing husband is and for three years has been closely associated is sincerely united. ~Beaumont Journal, Beaumont, Texas
