He was born Aug. 7, 1915 in Grant Park, IL the son of the late August William and Alvina Marie (Blanke) Volling.
As a young man he worked on the Hallock Farm which is now part of the Wauconda High School property and the Historical Society Building. He played baseball for the Volo Bears in the 1930's. During this time he met his future wife Laurene Keisler at Dietz's Stables where he was a square dance caller. He left the farm to work as a crane operator for the ACME Steel Co. and later for the American Locomotive where he also was president of the United Mine Workers of America Union Local. He established ACME Electric until moving to Antioch in 1947 where he and his wife founded Antioch Electric Service. He traveled during that time also installing milk vending machines throughout the U. S. He retired in 1978 at the age of 62 spending many years during the winter months in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Gordon also enjoyed managing little league baseball and had installed the original field lights donating much of the labor. In addition to playing baseball he enjoyed golf, shuffle board, bingo, card playing and was an avid Chicago Cub Fan. He also was a life member of the Sequoit Masonic Lodge #827 A.F. & A. M.
On Sept. 2, 1939 he married Laurene M. Keisler in Wauconda and she preceded him in death after 59 years on May 23, 1999. Gordon will always be remembered as a wise, caring, thoughtful, proud and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
