NOTE: Mr. Thomas Barry Gotham, Jr., T.B. Gotham, Tom Gotham, Gotham, or as the younger generation of Allison researchers are calling him, 'Gothman', it doesn't matter what you call him, he is known in all lines of the Allison family as being one of our first family researchers. Mr. Gotham started his research in 1919 and continuously worked up until his death in 1988. Almost 70 years of research....amazing to stay in any hobby for that long! Mr. Gotham blazed a trail for the rest of us to follow that's for sure. And what little I write here about him does little justice to his works. But I wanted everyone to at least get a glimpse of the 'Goth'man and to try to get a little understanding of how much work he did for our Allison Family.

Thomas Gotham did not have the computers or the internet to aid in his research. He did not have genealogical societies to show him someone else's work to copy. He did not have local libraries do the work for him. He did not have family come and give him his line. Thomas did it the old fashion way, hard, tedious and sometimes frustrating research. His work was done on an old typewriter with many mistakes left on the original copies.

Mr. Gotham spent thousands of dollars on his research; birth, marriage, death certificates, land deeds, old wills, books and must importantly to him, travel. Many Allison families were graced by his presence when he would make a social call collecting data. According to Thomas' records, he traveled extensively to gather information. Even today, families will tell stories of how a man by the name of Thomas Gotham came and left their lineages for the family and most times a 'thank you' letter from him.
