VARNAMTOWN – Mrs. Mary Ava Ludlum Dixon, age 94, Varnamtown, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.
Mrs. Dixon was born December 17, 1908, and was the daughter of the late Manson and Myrtie Stanley Ludlum. She was wife of the late A.L. "Shucky" Dixon and was also preceded in death by a son, D.L. Dixon; two daughters, Cereta Smith and Mary Dixon; three grandsons, Michael Deal, Tann Dixon, Dona ld Smith; and also two stepsons, Alton Dixon and Clyde Dixon. She was a member of Dixon Chapel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Dixon and wife Vicki, Tentis Dixon and wife Helen, all of Varnamtown; four daughters, Marlene Varnam and husband Carson of Varnamtown, Shirley Little and husband David of Whiteville, Myrtie Neil Moore and husband Edward of Currie, Elsa Mae Deal and husband Ray of Burgaw; two brothers, Lindsey Ludlum of Shallotte and Molloney Ludlum of Charleston, SC; three sisters, Geneva Grissett of Grissettown, Irene Walton of Wilmington, Vera H. Hewett of Supply; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 6, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Dixon Chapel United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jeanne Ray and Reverend Anthony Clemmons officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Dixon's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will reveive friends from 6-8 this evening at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, Supply Chapel, and other times from the residence.
