Wife of Captain William Wells Bamford
She was known by her family and friends as grandma Bamford or Aunt Renie. she kept a diary most of her life I have copies and am trying to get them added to my web site on "Home page of Thelma Moye" they are so interesting to read. The original's are in Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. She wrote about their daily lives and about the people who lived on the Island. Her family had a farm on the foot of the Island called Bamford Point and at one time they owned the small Island just off the point called Linda's Island. Her husband was a sea capt. and she spent a lot of days with just her and her children working the farm a lot by themselves. She also wrote poetry and had a love for reading and her family. She had 5 children James, John, Wells Jr., Isabelle,& Grace. She raised Maud Watson when Mauds father couldn't take care of a newborn baby as Mauds mother died giving birth to her. She also adopted two girls from the Kingston orphans home Edith & Emma Lehamen and always seem to have someone staying with them and had a lot of company. She had one sister Rachel who always lived near her both girls married Bamford brothers. Toward the end of her life she was unable to get around as she had inherited foot problems as she grew older. She had to move from chair to chair with much difficulty.
