Catherine Christine was born to George Leopold and Anna Margaretha (Mog) Kind. The birth record is signed by Renatus Erbe, Minister of the Gospel, Rhine, Wisconsin on August 16, 1861. I assume this is when she was baptized. She was born on Wednesday at 8:00 PM with the given name as Catherine Elisabeth Kathinka Kind.

On May 19, 1870 the family moved to a farm near Grove, Minnesota which is a small township near Melrose, Minnesota. Catherine was confirmed by Pastor Otto Streussburger on December 12, 1876 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lake Henry, Minnesota.

She married Herman Louis Barchenger on September 5, 1876 in Melrose, Minnesota. In the early 1930s, Herman and Catherine went to North Dakota to be near their children who lived in New Salem and Hannover.
