Irby Everett Rommel was born southeast of Quinlan, Oklahoma on January 8, 1916; the son of Fred and Eva Rommel. He attended the Mayfield school. On May 13, 1936, he was married to Laura C. Lierman in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their home in Paso Robles, California. He worked in the orchards and in construction. In 1941, they moved to the family farm southeast of Quinlan, Oklahoma. he farmed and ranched until his retirement in 1978. They moved to Woodward, Oklahoma in November of 1969. He was a security guard for the W. R. Grace Company for eight years.
He died Thursday, September 6, 1990, at the Woodward Hospital and Health Center. He was 74 years of age.
Survivors include his wife, Laura of the home; two sons, Carl Rommel, Chanute, Kansas; Jerry Rommel and wife, Jo, Woodward, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Bryan Rommel and wife, Shelly, Collierville, Tennessee; Margo Rommel, Chanute, Kansas; two brothers, Raymond Rommel, Arkansas City, Kansas; Irvy Rommel, Dexter, Kansas; one sister, Mrs Vera Buttel, Peru, Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
