Death Occurred Thursday Following Period of Illness
Death claimed George Rothmann, aged 65, at his home at 815 Seventh street, on Thursday morning at 10:45 o'clock, after a brief illness with heart disease. The cause of his death was a stroke of apoplexy.
The deceased, a son of the late William and Amelia Rothmann, nee Hackenschmdt, was born in Garnet, Wisconsin, Fond du Lac county on June 3, 1865, where he had grown to manhood. At the age of 19 years he learned the blacksmith trade at the F.O. Horneck blacksmith shop in the town of Rhine, where he remained for 7 years.
On September 27, 1891, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Dexheimer of the town of Rhine. Immediately after their marriage they located in Kiel,where Mr. Rothmann opened a blacksmith shop of his own on Fremont street,and two years later he erected a new blacksmith shop on the site of the present Stoll and Boeselager Co. garage, and he conducted the trade until 1912, when he sold it to J.G.W. Loos. Mr. Rothmann, then had a residence erected on Seventh street, where they have since resided. For the past several years he has been in the employ of the Stoelting Brothers Co. No children were born to them. He is survived by his wife, and two brothers, Edward of Garnet, and Philip of Exeland. Two sisters preceded him in death: Mrs. Jacob Reiss of Garnet, who died in April 16, 1893, and Mrs. Nicholas Balz of Kiel, who died July 8, 1929. Several sisters and brothers who also died in their youth. He was a member of the Kiel Red Men lodge, and a member of the Kiel Fire Department, which organizations will attend the funeral ina body.
