He was born on 15 Mar 1897 in Champaign County, Illinois. His parents were Charles Morton Grierson and Mary Effie Heimburger. He had 5 siblings (Andrew, Lyle, Katherine (Squire), Charles, Leslie).

In his early years he lived on their Dairy Farm in Somer Township, just north of Champaign near Leverett, Illinois. He lived with his parents until he married sometime after 1920. After his marriage, he may have moved to Joliet, Illinois. After his divorce around 1938, he may have moved to California near the Fresno area. He lived there until his death in 1959.

According to military burial records, he served in the US Army from 9 Feb 1918 to 22 Sep 1919 during WWI. He was a mechanic attached to Troop H of the 14th Cavalry. He was a mechanic during WWI and later in life.

Clifford Grierson married Jennie between 1920 and 1927 in Illinois according to property records. However, they divorced sometime around 1938 in Champaign County. After his move to California, he married Margaret (Marguerita).

He passed away on 30 Nov 1959 in Fresono, California. He was buried in the Liberty Veterans Cemetery in Fresno, California.
