Margaret Irene Ketron was the daughter
of Peter Nelson Ketron and Sarah Elizabeth
'Spurrier' Ketron. She was the granddaughter
of Allen Cattron and Sarah Elizabeth
'Crawford' Cattron.
Margaret was born Aug 16 1873, passed
away Jan. 15th - 1949 at Silvers Rest
home, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had been
in poor health for several years.'Maggie'
was born in Richmond, Virginia spending
her girlhood days prior to moving to
Indiana with her parents, and later
coming to Fairland, Ottawa County,
Indian Territory with the family.
Margaret Irene Ketron was married to Rev.
Isaiah Henry Maples Long. They were married
in September, 1896, at Muskogee, Indian
Territory. The couple lived on a
farm near Afton, I.T.
She was the mother of 9 children in order:
Henry Maples
Francis Lucinda
Flora Amanda
Pearl Blanch
Roy Robert
Opal Virginia
Velva 'Jewel'
Ray Alva
Ruby Irene
Her first child, Henry Maples died
at the young age of 10. He is buried
between Maggie and his sister, Jewel. Henry's death was a result from a fall from the family wagon. He suffered from the fall from head wounds and others.
Later, after the death of grandfather,
grandmother's home was destroyed by fire. Sadly, she lost everything. It was located on the North Side of the RR tracks in Afton. Grandmother never recovered from the shock of her loss and her health rapidly deteriorated.

A pioneer resident of the Afton
area, Mrs. Marguirite (Maggie)
Long, 76 years old, died Saturday
night at a rest home in Tulsa.
She had lived either in or near
Afton for the last 53 years.
Surviving are two sons, Ray of
Afton and Roy of Tulsa; six
daughters, Mrs. Francis Coiner,
Exeter, Calif.; Mrs. Floy Maynard,
Visalia, Calif.; Mrs. Pearl Totton,
Ukiah, Calif.; Mrs. Opal Franklin,
Fort Scott, Kas.; Mrs. Jewell
Warner, Tulsa, and Mrs. Ruby Bo-
hannan, Afton; A sister, Lot-
tie Eades, Fayetteville, Ark.; two
brothers, Tom Ketron of Afton
and Will Ketron of Vinita; 26
grandchildren and 18 great grand-
children.
Funeral services will be held
at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First
Baptist church, Afton. The Rev.
J. Grover Scales, Commerce will
officiate. Burial will be in Mount
HOpe cemetery, Afton, under the
direction of the Goodson Funeral
homes, Afton.
Descendant of the Kettenrings of
Germany/Switzerland, the original
name was changed to Ketron, Katron.
Catron, Cattron, and other spellings
as well. Her father, Peter Ketron
spelled the family name differently
than his father, Allen Cattron.
NOTE: Research for information
on her mother's side of the family,
Spurrier, is on going. It will be
added when new info is found.
