Don was the elder of three siblings: Gordon Arvid and Agatha Nadine Dahl DeBruler Fink. Don and Virginia had one child, a daughter.
While working at North American Aviation (Hawthorne CA) he was injured on the job and developed tuberculosis of the leg bone. He died of the disease after multiple amputations of portions of his leg. During this time he and Virginia manually together built their home in Inglewood CA.
