I don't recall very much abt Grampa Dahl. i remember their home on Arlington Ave, South LA - it was dark and mysterious and an adventure to explore. I loved the alley in back of the home and wandered blocks and blocks along it.
Grandpa was a contractor. I recall seeing sidewalks which bore his name and date the concrete was put down. Dad said that Grandpa had a license issued by the state which permitted him to build anything he had money to finish. He was contractor on many of the original piers from Carpenteria to Orange County. Dad would point out the remains of a dam built in the Hollywood Hills that evidently never held back water. Was it a work of corruption when LA had a reputatation? The remains weere visible from I-5 on the West side. I believe Grampa Dahl built the Mulholland Fountain in Los Feliz. Same for either US 60 or 66 from LA to Arizona.
AH ! family tales.
Grandpa Dahl had a drinking problem which eventually killed him via pneumonia. As kids we would often accompany Dad when he would go to get his father from some place he had passed out. Grandpa had a great big black car - a Packard? we would find him passed out in that impressive car in the wheat fields several blocks from our home.

Kinda sad that i don't recall more.

I think Gramma D divorced Grammpa D.

that's my story until one of my siblings or cousins contributes better ones
