Mary Yarbrough Banks, wife of James Russell Banks. Mary was the daughter of Groves Yarbrough and Martha Langston Yarbrough who lived near McFarlin Road on land given as a headright to Revolutionary soldier James Yarbrough, the father of Groves, who died in an Indian Massacre there in 1792. Martha's parents were Rev. Nathan Langston and wife Catherine Smith of Union, South Carolina. Nathan also served in the Revolutionary War, and was the son of Absolam Langston of the French and Indian War and Christian Bennett of the Virginia Bennetts tracing back to Richard Bennett of Jamestowne. Russell died in the Civil War in 1864 leaving Mary to raise children 1. Martha Elizabeth Banks, 2. William Russell Banks, 3. Jane Banks, 4. Sara Evelyn Banks, Nancy Catherine Banks, 6. Thomas Marion Banks. She is buried next to the monument of her husband Russell Banks, near the family homestead at Currahee Mountain in what is now Stephens County, Georgia,and what was then Habersham County.
