Elma Carol Kastner was born November 19, 1920 in Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado, the daughter of Agnes Daisy Hallinan (1897-1979) and Charles M. Kastner (1887-1945).

Elma attended elementary school in Los Angeles and graduated from John C. Fremont High School.

On September 28, 1941, Elma and Donald Grant Lewis were married in Los Angeles County, California. Donald was born May 20, 1917 in Los Angeles County, California, and died May 22, 1970 in Los Angeles County California. He was the son of Zella Marie Drake (1898-1948) and Jack Grant Lewis (1896-1976). Elma and Donald were divorced in 1944 in Los Angeles County, California. No issue.

Elma was a secretary for North American Aviation from 1943 to 1945, where she met her future husband, Don Hillard. When I was about nine, we went to Don's parents home, where Don and Elma were having an engagement party in the backyard. I recall seeing Elma and thinking 'That's the most beautiful girl I had ever seen'. Her picture confirms my thoughts as a young boy. Many years later, I told Elma of my recollection and received the most wonderful smile, hug and thanks from that still beautiful lady.

On August 17, 1946, Don Reh Hillard and Elma Carol Kastner of Los Angeles, California, were married at the Normandy Wedding Chapel in Long Beach, California by the Rev. Johnston Calhoun, a Presbyterian Minister. Don is the son of Edna Emily Reh Helfer (1892-1989) and Homer Edwin Hillard (1890-1963). He was born at Miss. Martin's Private Hospital in Santa Monica, California October 17, 1920.
Children:
• Stephen Ray (1947-__)
Carol Lynn (1950-2010)
Kenneth Lee (1953-1999)

In 1960, Don and Elma built a four bedroom house on three acres on Mirabel Road in Forestville, California.

In October of 1962, Don went to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on a contract for TWA Airlines where his family joined him until Elma and the children returned to the States to finish the children's schooling. When Don returned to the States, he went to work for United Air Lines at the San Francisco International Airport. Don and Elma then built another two bedroom house high on the hillside on two and one half acres where they resided in retirement at 5750 Orchard Lane, Forestville, California. Don built a large enclosed lap pool where Elma did her daily laps for many years.

In the early 1970's, Elma worked as a cook for the Forestville Elementary School.

As Don had retired from United Air Lines, they traveled worldwide. They also enjoyed numerous trips to Reno to take in the shows and attend the Reno Air Races.

Elma had some health problems the last few years of her life. On Sunday evening, February 20, 2011, she and Don were watching television, when she just closed her eyes, went to sleep for the last time.
