W.H. Swisher Dies Suddenly
William Harry Swisher, a retired rancher, passed away suddenly Saturday evening, February 22, 1958 from a heart attack at his home in Lostine. Funeral services were held by the Booth-Bollman funeral home Tuesday at 2PM from the Lostine Presbyterian church. The Rev. R.G. Hall officiated and Mrs. Melvin Crow was organist. Mrs. Orval McArtor and Melvin Crow sang "Saved By Grace" and "Beyond the Sunset." Interment was in the Lostine cemetery, and Jeff Snyder, George Botts, Lyle Cherry, Gerald Sherwood, John Lewis, and Hoke Ollis were casket bearers. The deceased was born in Richland, Oregon, December 15, 1894, son of Elisha and Laura Nash Swisher. He was married December 24, 1915 at Council, Idaho, to Martha Ann Gordon who preceded him in death on May 13, 1954. The couple came to Wallowa County in 1930 and lived on a ranch near Paradise until 1943 when they moved to Lostine to make their home. He was a member of the Christian Church. He leaves one son and two daughters: Bob and Mrs.[Living], of Flora, and Mrs. Marcell (La Vera) Norton, of Lostine; and seven grandchildren. Source: Chief Joseph Herald Feb. 27, 1958.
