Richard Batrie "Rickie" Steiding was the son of John Batrie and Virginia (Mason) Steiding. He had an older brother John Robert Steiding and an older sister Susan Steiding and one younger sister Ann Steiding. He and his family had lived in Lonaconing, Ocean and Midland. Rickie graduated Valley High School, Class of 1967 in Lonaconing, Allegany County, Maryland and from Frostburg State College, where he was an Associate Director of the Audio Visual Department.
His father had preceded him in death. He was first taken to Myersdale Community Hospital and then transferred to Morgantown University Hospital, where he died.
Eichhorn Funeral Home handled the arangements and his services were from the Grace Methodist Church, where he was a member. Rickie was 23 years of age, when he died.
