Amazi was the son of Burrell Anderson and we believe his mother was Priscilla Johnson. His parents died when he was very young, and Amazi went to live in the household of his Uncle Mark Anderson in Corsicana, Navarro, Texas. His Uncle died in 1854 and Amazi then became a ward of his Aunt Mary "Polly" Anderson, Mark's wife. Then at her death he became a ward of his Cousin Willis Anderson. On 6 Jun 1864, in Johnson County, Texas he married Sarah Elizabeth Walker the granddaughter of Sheriff Joe Shaw of Johnson County. They moved many times between Texas and Oklahoma and had a total of 12 children. Only one seems to have died in childhood. Amazi died suddenly of appendicitus in Callisburg, Texas
