William Sears Anderson was the son of Amaziah Davis Anderson and Sarah Elizabeth Walker. At birth he was named Billie Sayers Anderson and altered his name as an adult. His World War I Draft Registration states his name as William Sayers Anderson including his signature with the same spelling. The 1880 census of Blanco County, Texas completely mangles his name as "Serogens" Anderson.

William Sears Anderson married Dovie Lee Sullivan (1879-1919), daughter of Mark A. Sullivan and Nancy L. Hunter, about 1902. They had three children and moved to Arizona about 1918. After Dovie's death, he married a second time to Dora Belle Pruett Jordan (1880-1966), daughter of Francis Marion Pruett and Frances Caroline Pruitt, on November 13, 1920 in Phoenix, Arizona and he became step-father to her three sons from her first marriage. He was a farmer.
