Don graduated from Soldier High School in 1958. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army. Don retired from Goodyear after 32 years; he owned and operated, with his wife R. Meta, Jerry’s Place in Havensville and was a farmer and stockman.
Don was a member of the Havesville United Methodist Church, V.F.W. and American Legion both in Onaga.
He married R. Meta Ellis on September 5, 1959 in Havensville. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Debra Diane Mapes of Havensville; a son, Kenneth Wayne Area of Havensville; 2 sisters, Wilma Scheetz (Don) of Topeka and Betty Bernritter (Jack) of Havensville; 4 brothers, William Area (Sharon) of Overton, NE, Robert Area (Henrietta) of Mayetta, Richard Area (Judy) of Boise, ID and Jack Area (Mary Lou) of Topeka; 3 grandchildren, Sarah Krause (Adam), Diana Shankland and Joshua Mapes and 4 great-grandchildren, Airaden, Max, Ryeli and Sadie.
Don was cremated. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Kansas Cancer Institute c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
