CITY STEELMAN HURT IN MILL ACCIDENT

Charles E. Allmon 39, Crucible employee, crushed in mishap!

A 39 yr old East Liverpool steel worker suffered fatal injuries Wednesday night at the Midland works of the Crucible Steel Co. The victim was Charles E. Allmon, 1019 Claybourne Ave., a charger operator in the electric furnace department.

W. W. Hall, Crucible Safety Director said an empty charging box being withdrawn from the electric furnace struck the side of the charging buggy with such force that it caused Allmon to fall backward off the machine. Due to insufficent clearance he was trapped and squeezed between the moving trolley and charging machine frame.

The accident happened at 6:45pm and Allmon died in the Rochester General Hospital at 9:35pm. He had been a Crucible employee six years.

Allmon was born in Marietta, a son of George J. and Daisy Allmon. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of American Legion Post 374 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 66.

He leaves his widow Mrs. Myrtle Allmon, two children, Charles Allmon and Jeanette Allmon and a sister Mrs. Irene Snyder all of East Liverpool. Rites will be held Saturday at 2pm in the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Columbiana Memorial Park.

Friends may call Friday night at the funeral home.

Charles Edward Allmon, Sr. married (1) Myra Vermillion Seevers and (2) Myrtle Lee (Ross) Matheny.

He was also survived by a brother, George Hamilton Allmon.
