"Chris Austin, 88, died Monday at the Hancock Memorial Hospital, Britt. He had suffered a stroke at his home Saturday night. Born July 31, 1872, near Crystal Lake, he was married in 1901 to Andrena Johnson at Forest City, Iowa. He operated the Austin Hardware Store here. His wife died in 1930. Surviving are four children, Mrs. Ollie (Elma) Kirschbaum, Mason City; Everett, Crystal Lake; Mrs. LeRoy (Helena) Zuehl, Britt; Mrs. Laurane Jensen, Kansas City; 16 grandchildren, four brothers, Theodore, Thompson; Ed, Chicago; Martin, Mason City; Gilbert, Covina, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Simms, Covina, and Mrs. Cora Hall, Preston, Minn. Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Crystal Lake. The Rev. Walter B. Phelps will officiate. Burial will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery with Boughton Funeral Home in charge."
