Woodford Fremont Abernathy passed away on April 30, 1997 at the age of 76 in a Fort Smith, Arkansas hospital. Mont was born October 2, 1922 at LeFlore, Oklahoma, the only child of Robert Coleman Abernathy and Flora Lee Hamilton Abernathy. Mont married Junior Christina Lovell Knight on May 25, 1946 in Cameron, Oklahoma. Upon their marriage, Mont became step-father to Chris’s two children, Larry and Brenda Knight, whose father had been killed in World War II. The family lived in Red Oak, Oklahoma, where Mont worked for the local electrical utility as a lineman. Their son Bob was born in 1947, and the Abernathy family moved to Wilburton in 1953. Mont worked many years for American Electric Power, and also served as a volunteer fireman. He loved the Lord, his family, and hunting and fishing in the mountains of Latimer County.
