MRS. BERTHA ANDERSON LAID TO REST IN SUNDAY RITES AT VARNA
Funeral services were held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, in the First Lutheran Church of Varna, for Mrs. Bertha Anderson, a former resident of that community, but for the past few years, residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace A. Carlson of Henry.
In gradually failing health for several months past, she was taken Wednesday evening, June 21, to St. Margaret's Hospital, Spring Valley, IL, where she passed away shortly after noon last Thursday, June 29, 1961.
Officiating at the church service and also at a brief preliminary service Sunday at 2 o'clock at the Boose Funeral Home, was the pastor of the church, the Rev. Glenn L. Anderson.
Pallbearers were four nephews, Carl, Emory, Milton, and Gordon Hultgren; a grandson, Lowell McKirgan, Jr. and Dale Summons.
Interment was in the church parish cemetery (First Lutheran Cemetery #1) north of Varna, IL, where she was laid to rest besides her husband, the late David A. Anderson, and a son (Dormand) who died in 1924.
LIFE LONG COUNTY RESIDENT
Mrs. Anderson, whose baptismal name was Bertha Charlotte Hultgren, was the third of five children, three sons and two daughters, of the late Erlund and Minnie A. Gustafson Hultgren, born on the parents farm in Hopewell township, Marshall County, on December 12, 1891. She attended the schools in that community and was married there on February 22, 1912, to the late David. A. Anderson. Mr. Anderson passed away in March of 1951.
Five children came to bless their home, Alna, now Mrs. Lowell McKirgan of LaFayette, IL. , Wayne now residing at Markle, IN; Dormand, who died at the age of five years in 1924, Irene, Now Mrs. Wallace Carlson of Henry, and David Eldon of Batavia. Surviving are also six grandchildren, one brother, Jalmar Hultgren of Varna, and one sister Mrs. Ethel Hultgren of Joliet.
