Mary C. Alongi, 85, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association - Mississippi Valley Chapter.

Mary Catherine Sidoti was born Aug. 7, 1913, in St. Agatha, Sicily, Italy, one of three daughters of Salvatore and Maura Toscano Sidoti. The family came to the United States and to Rock Island in 1918. She married Nicholas Alongi Sept. 18, 1932, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island.

She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed her life as a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family. Upon retirement the couple enjoyed extensive traveling. The couple especially enjoyed their cruises and trips to Hawaii. Mary was very active serving the Democratic Party and for a short time worked part-time for an insurance agency.

Most of all, she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and in later years, her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Nicholas; daughters and son-in-law, Martha M. and Don Hentrich, Rock Island, Margaret "Maura" Senatra, East Moline; a son, George N. Alongi, Rock Island; grandchildren and their spouses, Donald Michael and Shigeko Hentrich, Casper, Wyo., and Linda Martha and Daniel Johnson, Bettendorf; great-grandchildren, Michael and Misun Hentrich, Casper, Wyo., and Brad, Aaron and Jeremy Johnson, Bettendorf; and a niece, Rose Summers, Rock Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Katherine Raymond and Theresa Carcione. May they rest in peace.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to all her family and friends who were able to provide her with wonderful memories. Mary will be greatly missed.

The family also would like to thank the special people at Rosewood Care Center for the care and love given during her stay.
