Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Visitation is 4-6 p.m. today at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church or to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Alongi was born Aug. 23, 1937, in Rock Island, the son of Nicholas and Mary Sidoti Alongi.
He served in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge from the service, he worked a number of years as a barber. George had worked the last 35 years at the former Servus Rubber Co., now Norcross Footwear, Rock Island. He enjoyed his work and especially the relationships he had formed with his co-workers over the years.
George enjoyed listening to music, cooking, and being with his family.
Survivors include his father, Nicholas, Rock Island; sisters and brother-in-law, Martha and Don Hentrich, Rock Island, and Margaret Alongi, East Moline; niece, Linda Johnson, Bettendorf; nephew, Donald Michael Hentrich, Casper, Wyo.; a great-niece, and four great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary.
