Son of Jesse Edwin Zachry and Elizabeth Cooper.

Jasper moved to Texas before his brothers, Fletcher, Romaldes and Abner Daniel. On August 13, 1861, Jasper joined the Confederate Army in Daingerfield, Texas. On December 31, 1861, he was "lieutenant" in charge of the Company of "Hawkins, Texas Enforceables" of the Confederate Army, which he and Hawkins organized. Jasper lost a leg in the War and walked on an artificial leg after that.

After the War, he and his wife Mary lived in Daingerfield, Morris County, Texas. Jasper was a merchant there at the time of his death. Jasper attended the funeral services of his cousin, Abner Shelton Zachry, Jr. in Pittsburg, Texas in 1905.

Jasper died on October 6, 1908 and his wife Mary died in 1926. Both are buried in Daingerfield Cemetery. On his tombstone was inscribed "Jasper N. Zachry, born in Putnam County, Ga. on August 24, 1832."
