Mrs. Caryl A. Poland, Abingdon Chapel
80, of 506 E. Latimer St., Abingdon, died at 3:53 pm Friday, November, 26, 2010 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born on November 14, 1930 in Galesburg, the daughter of Walter E. and Helen (Lindgren) Carlson.
She attended schools in Galesburg until moving to Buda, Ill. and graduated from Buda High School in 1948.
She married Doren E. Poland on June 12, 1949 at the First Lutheran Church in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Ed McDonald.
She worked at the Illinois Camera Shop in Galesburg before moving to Abingdon and she then worked part-time at Polands Market.
Caryl is survived by her children, Christine (and Jim) Morrison of Collinsville, David (and Sheri Owen) Poland of RR Galesburg and Patricia McDonald of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Darcie Poland of Abingdon, Derek Poland of RR Galesburg, Christopher and Dustin Morrison of Collinsville; two brothers, Donald B. (and Bonnie) Carlson and Rev. John W. (and Anita) Carlson all of Galesburg; three sisters, Janet (and Harold) Griffith, Lois Malcolm all of Galesburg and Barbara (and Raymond) Carlson of Woodhull; and twenty-two nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Bethany Baptist Church, 590 S. Academy St., Galesburg. Her brother, Rev. John W. Carlson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
