HOLDEN MO MAN SHOT TO DEATH
Holden, MO: Paul Ray Pullen, 32, Holden, was shot to death Saturday after an incident involving a brother-in-law, George Jennings, and other family members, the Johnson County sheriff's office said.

The shooting occurred at the rural home of Pullen's father-in-law, Austin Jennings. Pullen was shot with a .410 shotgun. No charges have been filed, the sheriff's office said.

Pullen, who had lived in Cass County most of his life, moved to Holden about five months ago. He worked for a lumber company. He was a member of the Strasburg, Mo., Baptist Church.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lorene Pullen, two sons, Billy Pullen and Troy Pullen and a daughter Paula Pullen, all of the home, another daughter, Arliss Pullen, 549 Park, Kansas City; his father and stepmother, Mr.and Mrs. Paul Pullen, 28 S. 24th, Kansas City, Kansas; his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. James Shelten of Creighton in Cass County; two sisters, Mrs. LaDon Brennan, Syracuse, NY and Mrs Karen Heidebrecht, Topeka; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ruey Andersen, Sun City, Ariz; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Amanda Shelten, Creighton in Cass County. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Atkinson-Dickey Chapel, Garden City in Cass County; burial in Garden City Cemetery. Friends may call from 7:30 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Chapel.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 14, for Paul Ray Pullen, who died of a shotgun wound at his Holden home, Saturday, April 29.

He was born on Feb. 25, 1940, near Aaron and at an early age moved to the Creighton community with his family. He attended the Creighton school and joined the U.S. Navy in 1957.

He married Lorene June Jennings on June 9, 1965. Pullen was employed at the Summit Lumber Co. in Lee's Summit and was a member of the Strasburg Baptist church.

Surviving relatives include his wife of the home; two daughters, Arliss Marie of Kansas City and Paula June of the home; two sons, Billy Ray and Troy Edward of the home; mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. James Shelten of Creighton; father and stepmother, Mr. & Mrs. Paul Pullen of Kansas City, KS; two sisters, LaDon Brennan of Syracuse, NY and Karen Heidebrecht of Topeka, KS; grandmother Ruey Andersen of Sun City AZ; two step-grandmothers, Mrs. Amanda Shelten of Creighton and Mrs. Bertha Wells of Pleasant Hill; two uncles, Kenneth Pullen of Creighton and Gilbert Pullen of Urich; two aunts, Rachel O'Bannon of Overland Park KS and Alma Still of Creighton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rev. Jack Daniels officiated at the services in Garden City Thursday, May 4. Burial was at Garden City cemetery.
