Keith W. Dague, 100, of Newman died at 3:20 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2008, at the Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.
Keith Winters Dague was born on October 2, 1907, southeast of Newman, on the old Cornwell farm. He is the oldest child of Ralph Andrew and Belva Blanche (Boyer) Dague, who farmed near Newman for many years. His father came from Marshall County, West Virginia, arriving in Illinois on January 2, 1901. His mother's grandparents were early pioneers in the Coles, Douglas, and Edgar County areas.
He attended White School, which was near his home, for first through eighth grades. He then attended Newman Township High School. He finished high school in 1926 and is probably the oldest living graduate of Newman Township High School.
He was married by Rev. J.R McBride, with Mrs. Anna McBride as the witness to Olive Irene Brown on September 6, 1931, in Newman and they celebrated 74 years of marriage before her death on October 22, 2005.
They had four children; Archie (Dolores Strader) Dague, and Mrs. Lloyd (Virginia) Johns both of rural Oakland, and Mrs. Dale (Helen) Spiker of Wheeler, Illinois. Another son, Joseph Keith "Joe" Dague (1946-1970) is deceased. Mr. Dague has nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He has two sisters, Margaret Martin of Sidney, and Joyce Chandler of Chrisman. Three brothers preceded Mr. Dague in death; Leonard, Reese, and Rex Dague, and a sister, Alice Eastin.
Mr. Dague is a longtime member of the Hugo Community Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a farmer on the former Ghast farm between Hindsboro and Hugo for many years. He also helped organize the Douglas County Soil and Water Conservation District in 1948 and served as the director for 25 years, with the last 8 years serving as chairman of the board.
