William was the son of Richard T. and Elizabeth(Yancey)Torrance/Tarrance. During the Civil War he was in Co."K", 5th Georgia Infantry. He joined the Confederate Army in April, 1862 at Cedartown, Polk Co., GA. On May 15,1864 he was shot in the left knee at the Battle of Lay's Ferry on the Oostanaula River west of Calhoun, GA. Sent to a hospital in Atlanta. Husband of Mary Lou(Jennings)Torrance/Tarrance. Father of Martha, William, James M., Charlie, Jasper Newton, and Mary. In a pension application submitted by Mary L. Tarrance on June 29, 1903 she states that her husband died on Nov. 1, 1890.
