Elsie M. Townsend Smith, 72, died at the Huntington County Hospital after a 5 day illness from Bronchial Pneumonia complicated by cholecystitis. She was the daughter of Charles Townsend and Virinda Winfield Townsend. Elsie was born on Janury 17, 1883 in Hoover, Cass County, Indiana. She had 9 siblings.

She married Robert Fulton Personett in Logansport Cass County, Indiana when she was 21 years old on May 28, 1904. They had two children: Russell Harold Personett (1905-1905) and Carmen M. Personett Martin (1906-1989).

She then married Leroy D. Davis on August 6, 1919 in Peru, Miami County, Indiana when she was 36 years old. Mr. Davis died in 1928. She later married Mr. Leroy Smith and moved to Andrews, Huntington, Indiana.

She was buried at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Mexico, Miami County Indiana on May 28, 1955. Deal Funeral Home in Andrews, Indiana was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Elsie Smith, 72, Succumbs in Hospital

Peru, Indiana-Rites for Mrs. Elsie Smith, 72, Andrews, native of Cass County and former Miami County resident who died Wednesday at the Huntington County Hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Deal Mortuary in Andrews, and the body will be brought to Mexico for burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.

An Andrews resident for 16 years, she was born January 17, 1883, in Case County, to Charles and Vrinda (Winfield) Townsend. She was a member of the Mexico Church of the Brethren, and she had resided in Andrews for 16 years. Survivors are her husband, Roy Smith; a daughter, Mrs. Carmen Martin, in Illinois; a brother, Charles Townsend, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Cress, both of here.
