E. W Townsend

Edgar Walter Townsend, 66 years of age, died at his home on Route A, Bloomfield addition, at 6:25 p.m. Saturday. He had been ill two months with myocarditis (on death certificate), and his death was due to complication of ailments.

He was born in Cass County March 30, 1879, a son of Charles and Virinda (Winfield) Townsend. In 1902, he was united in marriage with Mary Ellen Chambers who survives.

Surviving also are four sons, Luther, Carl, Floyd, and Charles, all of Peru; three daughters, Miss Pearl Townsend, at home, Mrs. Josephine See and Ethel Poland, both of Peru; three brothers, Otis and Charles Townsend of Peru and John Townsend of Walla, Walla, Washington; three sisters, Hazel Townsend and Bertha Cress of Peru, and Mrs. Elsie Smith of Andrews, Indiana, and 25 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Drake funeral home at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. J. C. Pickett officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The body was taken to the late residence Monday morning and will be returned to the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.

He was a devoted brother, husband, and father.
