Albany Tx. - Calvin Bradford, age 88 of Albany, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 19th, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Ulrey officiating. Interment will follow in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 18th from 2:00 to 4:00 at Morehart Mortuary of Albany.
Calvin Lee Bradford was born June 3, 1923 in Alpena, Arkansas to parents Robert Lee Bradford and Minnie Ola Balliew Bradford. They moved to Albany where Calvin grew up and later graduated from Albany High School in 1941. After graduation, Calvin moved to Hanford, Washington and worked in a refinery. During World War II, he also worked for Hercules Powder where he made ammunition and helped build atomic bombs. A few years later Calvin decided to move back to Albany. He brought six dairy cows to Albany and began ranching. He bought 160 acres from his Aunt Ollie for $100 an acre with 1% interest. He decided to remodel the home place in 1964 while operating a water hauling business. He married Lydia Mildred Israel in Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1954. She later preceded him in death in 1975. Calvin found love again and he married Pat Brueaker in 1989. She preceded him in death in 2009. Calvin worked most of his lifetime as a rancher and farmer and was very active until his passing. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Methodist's Men's Class. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, two brothers, and one sister.
Calvin is survived by five step children; Guy McCain and wife Charlotte of Albany; Latricia Sanders and husband Steve of Albany; Bruce Avants and wife Mary Lou of San Antonio; Peggy Guiest of Oklahoma City; Brad Avants and wife Rhonda of Thibodeaux, Louisiana; one niece, Nell Stovall of Eagle Lake; one nephew, Wayne Stovall of Coleman; one sister in law, Lynn Bradford of Washington State; one nephew, David Bradford of Washington State and numerous great nieces, nephews, and numerous grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Methodist's Men's Class and may be left at Morehart Mortuary. Condolences may be made online at www.morehartmortuary.net.
